Winning design chosen for WYD 2011 t-shirt
The winner of the World Youth Day 2011 T-shirt Design Competition is Alexandra Turner from the Diocese of Auckland. Her design received the most votes from the judging panel, which included professional designers.
Sr Helen O’ Sullivan RNDM, National Project Coordinator of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference Office for Young People, said the calibre of entries was high, but that Alexandra’s entry stood out.
“The judges commented on how Alexandra’s design had a certain “X factor”. They were also impressed by the powerful imagery used, the incorporation of all aspects of the World Youth Day theme, and the clearly Aotearoa New Zealand and Catholic flavour,” she said.
Work is currently underway for the design to be printed on a t-shirt, and a sample will be available early in 2011.
There were nearly 100 entries from around the country, including class entries from St Bernard’s College and St Catherine’s College in the Archdiocese of Wellington.
An entry from Morgan Dysart from the Diocese of Palmerston North received special mention for its high standard.
WYD 2011 is taking place in Madrid, Spain from 16-21 August 2011. Check with your diocesan youth office for more details.
