Everyone experiences suffering at some stage in their life. Often it seems inexplicable and senseless. Suffering permeates the whole of creation and raises many questions. The biggest of these is why?

In this reflection the bishops explore the mystery of suffering and look for ways to understand its saving power. Everyone has crosses in life. The bishops hope this reflection will help people to relate suffering to the mystery of Christ and view their crosses not as an end, but as the beginning of new life. 

The reflection is presented in seven parts, each offering an aspect of the mystery of suffering, and each a unit in itself for discussion or meditation.
