Takirua 2020 conference cancelled because of Covid-19 uncertainty

The Takirua 2020: Shaping the Mission conference planned for Wellington this weekend from 24 to 26 April has been cancelled because of uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The decision to cancel has been made to provide clarity and certainty for people in planning for the post-Covid-19 environment.

The conference was jointly promoted by Catholic Network of Marriage Educators and the NZ Catholic Bishops’ Council for Young People.

“We are very disappointed to have to make this decision, but there is simply too much uncertainty around travel, large-group gatherings and financial circumstances, to risk setting new dates for the conference,” says Chris Duthie-Jung, Director, Marriage, Family & Young Church Ministries at the Archdiocese of Wellington.

The kaupapa of the Takirua 2020: Shaping the Mission conference will be developed by the conference organisers and made available for diocesan application at the local level.

Registered participants will be personally notified of the cancellation and registration fees are currently being refunded in full.
