Long time sanctity of life promoter dies

Papal Knight Dr John Crowley was buried today after dying peacefully at his Palmerston North home on 13 March. Dr Crowley was well known for his work in promoting Catholic teaching on beginning and end of life issues.

He was Founder President of the New Zealand Association of Natural Family Planning, drafter of a letter on euthanasia to all parliamentarians which was followed by the rejection of the euthanasia bill, and founded or helped establish various groups promoting the sanctity of life. These included the Christian Family Life Education Group, Pregnancy Help and Doctors for Life.

Dr Crowley’s work led to his appointment to the Pontifical Academy for Life.
