The six Catholic bishops of Aotearoa New Zealand met this afternoon to discuss the pastoral implications of the new Covid-19 Alert Level restrictions which took effect at Noon. Auckland has been moved to Alert Level 3, under which Mass cannot be celebrated. The rest of the country has been moved to Alert Level 2, which allows religious gatherings such as Mass, but only with a maximum of 100 people present.

The bishops have written a letter to all parishes and priests, which has been sent to each diocesan office for distribution to parishes. A PDF copy of the letter is available here.

The Alert Level restrictions apply until at least midnight this Friday, 15 August. Your bishops will update the information in the letter as required, following further Government decisions.
