Biography

Born Brooklyn, New York in 1951

  • Educated at St Edmond’s School Brooklyn, NY, Sacred Heart School, Suffern, NY, Cathedral Prep, New York, NY, Cathedral College, Douglaston, NY.
  • Studied for the priesthood at the North American College in Rome, ordained in the chapel of the North American College, Rome on Pentecost Sunday, June 6, 1976
  • Obtained the Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology, and licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
  • 1982-1984: studied at the Catholic University of America gaining Licentiate in Canon Law.
  • Following ordination, pastoral work in parishes of Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY; St John the Evangelist, Mahopac NY and summer assignments at St John the Evangelist, NY and St Mary, Fishkill, NY.
  • 1984 entered the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome preparing for diplomatic service of the Holy See.
  • 1987 obtained a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University, before entering diplomatic service.
  • Diplomatic assignments: Ghana , Togo and Benin(1987-1990); Ecuador (1990-1993); Chile (1993-1996); Czech Republic (1996-1999); Jordan (1999-2002); Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, (2002-2005)
  • April 2005 appointed Titular Archbishop of Castello and Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand, Cook Islands, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Fed. States Micronesia, Nauru, Western Samoa, Tonga, Palau and Vanuatu, and Apostolic Delegate to the Pacific Ocean.
  • Episcopal ordination, June 29, 2005 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, New York.
