The NZCBC Office for Young People has released the winning design of the World Youth Day 2011 national t-shirt competition. It will appear on the official t-shirt to be worn by all Aotearoa New Zealand pilgrims travelling to Madrid in August for World Youth Day.
The winning designer is Alexandra Turner, a Year 13 student at St Mary’s College in Auckland. The judging panel, which included professional designers, chose Alexandra’s design from nearly 100 entries from around the country.
The judges commented on how Alexandra’s design had a certain “X factor” and were impressed by “the powerful imagery used, the incorporation of all aspects of the World Youth Day theme, and the clearly Aotearoa New Zealand and Catholic flavour”.
A special presentation to Alexandra will take place in Auckland in March 2011.
WYD 2011 is in Madrid, Spain from 16-21 August 2011. For more information contact your diocesan youth office.
